
Lee was born Thomas Lee Bass on October 3, 1962, in Athens, Greece, to father David Lee Thomas Bass, an American U.S. Army sergeant as well as mother Vassiliki "Voula" Papadimitriou (Greek: Basilike Papademetriou), an actress on the 1957 Miss Greece beauty contest. He is the younger brother of Athena who is a drummer. Lee was just two years old when his father relocated the family to California. He also got his first drumsticks when he turned four and his first real drum set at the age of sixteen. In order to pursue a career as an artist and performer, he quit high school and joined the L.A. nightclub band Suite 19. He was a fan of Van Halen, Led Zeppelin and Cheap Trick while a teen. His primary drumming influences include John Bonham, Tommy Aldridge, Alex Van Halen and Terry Bozzio
